Sleep, the theme of the Advent Calendar

We all spend about a third of our lives sleeping, although the number of hours that everyone needs is different. The proliferation of activities tends to shorten our sleep. Sleep is the theme of our Advent calendar 2011. Relaxing sleep, sleep as rest, sleep the brother of death, sleep of the child, the animals sleep, sleep as weakness time, the time of dream and nightmare, these are the themes that Western painting has treated . In 24 paintings by great masters or lesser-known artists, we can discover this activity that is an important part of our existence.

The Monastery is present in exhibition celebrating the 8th birthday of SL. The pavillion of CDS shows each sim. Here are two pictures of the part dedicated to the Monastery:

Egg painting contest 2011

The Monastery egg painting contest is open. Here are the instructions and the rules. Come and take an egg. Have fun painting it. The most beautiful egg will win 1000 L$.

Rules

1. Buy an egg for 0 L$ at the Monastery
2. Prepare a texture and set it to the egg. The texture must be original. It must have one or several patterns that are repeated on the egg. Adding objects to the egg is allowed.
3. Give a copy of your egg to Arria Perreault (non modif, copy, non transf) until the 19th April 2011.
4. A jury of three persons will determine the most beautiful egg. The most beautiful egg is awarded with 1000 L$.
5. No appeal of the decision of the jury is possible.
6. Everyone can participate, except the Curator of the Monastery and the members of the jury.
7. The most beautiful eggs will be exhibited in the Easter exhibition of the Monastery.
8. Results will be published on 25th April 2011.

Famous Lovers

We have completed the exhibition “Famous Lovers” by adding a small tribute to Liz Taylor next to the painting of Lawrence Alma Tadema. We have also added a model of an ancient greek lyra made by Alexicon Kurka (AK Creation).

Passenger only

An archive of the exhibition “Passenger only” has been created on Artsteps. This website allows to create exhibitions in a 3D environment that opens in the browser.

Easter is coming soon

For Easter, we will make our tradition egg painting contest. We will also open an exhibition about hens.

A Love Perfume

The Periodic Table of Videos is a collaboration between the University of Nottingham’s School of Chemistry and video journalist Brady Haran. They initially made videos about all 118 elements. They are also making regular films about other aspects of chemistry and chemistry in the news!

Famous Lovers

For Valentine’s Day, the Monastery is proud to present a new exhibition about the most famous lovers in history, literature and mythology.

We present 10 couples through paintings that are mostly from the pre-raphaelit style:

Antony and Cleopatra
Aphrodite and Adonis
Lancelot and Guinevere
Penelope and Odysseus
Orpheus and Eurydice
Eros and Psyche
Pyrame and Thisbe
Romeo and Juliet
Tristan and Isolde

The 10th couple is a surprise that you will discover in-world.
